Transportation Funding
Highway Expenditures for State and Local Governments Per Mile
What does this mean?
Total Highway Expenditures for State and Local Governments/Total Road Miles = Total Spending/Mile
Why does this matter?
This figure represents the total investment by state in the transportation system on a per mile basis. The level of funding is directly related to the conditions of the infrastructure network. (While different states have different topography, roadway types, geography, and density characteristics, this figure is a way to compare statewide investments.)
